Kryptomon — Koa’s Log #6

It’s the pink glow! That pink glow is the biggest breakthrough we’ve had these 2 months since our Kryptomons hatched, and it might be my best chance in getting Embie back.

I’m getting ahead of myself though. To understand it all, we’ll first have to take a trip down memory lane, back to when the lab first burnt down…

                                                                                                                            .  .  .

The Aftermath

Embie is gone and it feels like a part of me went along with it. Like something is… disconnected.

We sent out search parties the night the lab burned down, looking to find all the missing Kryptomon but to no avail. Hours turned into days and our initial worry for the baby Kryptomons became overshadowed by the wider implications of what this could mean for society. They’re just babies after all, they don’t know how dangerous the world and people can be! Throw into the mix their ability to manipulate the elements and I shudder to think what havoc could be wrecked if they were to fall into the wrong hands.

Finding them before that happens is priority number one. The only question now is… how? There’s still so much we don’t know about Kryptomons, who’s to say they didn’t literally disappear into thin air?

                                                                                                                            .  .  .

The Pink Serum

We had Lapis to thank for the first clue, as it was in the wreckage of the lab that I first came across the pink liquid. Without Lapis being on site to put out the fires Embie and the other Kryptomon caused, we might never have discovered what we’ve now coined as the Pink Serum.

It’s odd, this pink serum. Traces of pink light could be found on the lab equipment when we searched through the wreckage the next day. To be more precise, there was a pinkish sheen that covered some of the machines that survived the fire, but it wasn’t until I saw it dripping down the side of our faithful cryptographic supercomputer that I recognized it for what it was.

A superfluid existing in regular room-temperatures under ambient conditions. The phenomenon was not unheard of, as the researchers at CNR NANOTECH Institute of Nanotechnology in Italy and the Polytechnique Montréal in Canada recently proved. While the technology to create liquid light (as it is more commonly known as) exists, we’re still years away from this pink light that seemingly condenses naturally into liquid form and back.

This was fascinating, but not something that would help us in our search for the missing Kryptomon. Instead of wondering why the pink light could naturally display the properties of a superfluid, trying to figure out what connection it had with the fire or our Kryptomons disappearing would be a better use of our time. It wasn’t until 2 days ago that we realized just how important this pink light would be in our search, and how it might potentially prevent the past from repeating itself.

                                                                                                                            .  .  .

Pink Moonlight

By all accounts it was a relatively normal day. Ever since we discovered the pink serum, the team have set up “collection basins” around the lab in hopes that more of this pink light could be collected. It never did though, and what pink light we did have from the day of the fire couldn’t fill a single test tube.

I remember first hearing a whoop of excitement from Eva. Her face flush from the cold, she burst into the lab with enough aplomb to shock all of us from our research.

“It’s the moon!” she exclaimed, holding up a phial that was glowing a distinctive pink. “The moon is the source of the pink light!”

As if rehearsed, everyone swivelled to look out the window of the lab, to catch a glimpse of the collection basins we placed outside the lab. There was a moment of silence as we took in the sight of the basin glowing pink before the lab burst into a hive of frenzied activity.

I burst out of my seat and started dragging the indoor collection basins out into the moonlight and soon everyone followed suit. In hindsight, you could say I was the cause of it all, as the Kryptomons might have been safe if they remained indoors.

Working together, the collection basins were dragged outdoors and they began to slowly turn pink as they soaked up the moonlight. Something was finally going our way! That is… until the eclipse occurred.

                                                                                                                            .  .  .

The Eclipse

There we all were, gathered out in the courtyard with our Kryptomons in tow when a darkness begin to creep up. I definitively remember looking up and seeing the sun eclipse the moon, cutting off the moonlight we so desperately needed.

Then they changed. The Kryptomons began to warp and cry out, their faces and bodies draining of color. And I don’t mean this in the traditional English saying where someone turns pale when caught telling a lie. No, the Kryptomons were literally being drained of color, their bright colorful bodies slowly fading into a pale grey.

They screamed, shuddering in what seemed like great pain. They snapped at anyone who tried to come close and Spark, Professor Wang’s Electro Kryptomon even sent out tendrils of electricity that shocked away other Kryptomon. This set off a chain reaction that soon saw the beginnings of a fire, the crackling of electricity, the icy cold chill of frost…

This must have been how the lab fire started.

For a few terrible moments, I was reminded that despite their cute, cuddly exteriors, these Kryptomon were dangerous. They’re just babies for now, but who’s to say they don’t grow larger and stronger in time? That they don’t lose control of the elemental powers they wield? The damage an army of 10,000 Kryptomons could cause was astronomical.

Then as quickly as it had come, the eclipse passed and the darkness receded. The Kryptomons fell to the floor and lay unmoving as I thanked my lucky stars a full out battle didn’t break out.

                                                                                                                            .  .  .

A Clue!

It’s been two days since then and the Kryptomons are back to their normal jolly selves. It’s not all sunshine and roses though. Everyone is… on edge after that night and the little flinches when a Kryptomon runs cheerfully through the lab speaks volumes to the fact that I wasn’t the only one who realized how dangerous our Kryptomons can be.

In other news, the research is back in full swing and the basins did manage to collect enough pink serum to fill 4 vials. There’s still much we don’t know about the Kryptomons, but if the events on the night of the eclipse were any indication, we can now surmise that this pink light helps prevent whatever it was that happened that night. The goal now is to figure out exactly what this pink light is.

We’ve also received reports of strange flashes occurring in the Kielder Forests. Strange flashes… and fires. My heart leaps to my throat every time I think it might be Embie. He’s lost, lonely and scared in the woods, never mind what might have happened to him because of the eclipse. I’d be on a train right now if Eva hadn’t volunteered to go in my place but she’s right. Out in the woods alone with what is potentially a wild Kryptomon is no place for a scientist.

Eva has Lapis with her for protection, and I’ve given her 3 vials of the pink serum for emergencies. It all rests on her now…

Kryptomon — Marketplace Launch

Hello trainers, welcome back to the wonderful world of Kryptomon. With the game launch right around the corner (13th of December 2021), we’re sure you’re all eager for more details and sneak peeks into what exciting adventures await you. Fortunately for you, there’ll be an AMA session on the day itself for you to throw any questions you might have Umberto’s way!

In this article however, we’ll be diving into another feature that I’m sure all of you are just as excited about— Our very own Kryptomon Marketplace!

                                                                                                                            .  .  .

The Kryptomon Central Hub

A long long time ago (September 2021 seems so long ago now…), we released official word that our very own marketplace was in the works. With major kudos to our amazing CTO Chris, Version 1 of the marketplace is finally ready to be released to the general public!

Though the reasoning behind why we needed our own marketplace has not changed since then, we’ve had to adapt and re-prioritize the features we initially set out to build based on the feedback we received from the community. So! Which features made the cut for Version 1 and which are coming soon?

                                                                                                                            .  .  .

Marketplace Features

Buy and Sell with KMON and BNB

The marketplace will allow trades in both KMON and BNB. In the future, we might consider rolling out support for trading in more cryptocurrencies but the main marketplace currency will always be KMON.

In an effort to make the Kryptomon Marketplace the best place (a true central hub) for all things Kryptomon, the transaction fee for trades conducted on our marketplace will be set at 4% for all trades conducted in BNB. Given that many major NFT marketplaces today charge a flat 5% fee for all trades (even our partners tofuNFT and Mochi do this), why wouldn’t you choose to buy, trade and sell your Kryptomons on the Kryptomon marketplace?

If that wasn’t enough, to encourage the use of KMON (more use cases for KMON!), trades conducted in KMON will receive a discount on transaction fees and see only 3.65% being charged! Why pay more when you don’t have to? 😉

                                                                                                                            .  .  .

Search And Bid On Kryptomons 🔍

At the moment on our partner marketplaces, the only eggs you see are those that other trainers have made available for sale. But what if you’re looking for a very specific combination of physical and elemental genes and can’t find it on the market?

With the Kryptomon marketplace, we wanted to make it such that trainers could easily find any Kryptomon/Kryptomon egg, even if it wasn’t available for sale! Featuring 27 different filters and the ability to search for a Kryptomon directly with its ID, the new marketplace gives trainers the ability to do exactly that.

I… WANT… FILTERS!!!!

In addition, trainers will now be able to place a bid on the Kryptomon they have their eye on, regardless of if the owner had put it up for sale. It’ll still of course, be up to the owners to decide if they want to accept or reject your bid, but this at least means you no longer have to type in your buy message on the main Telegram channel and hope that the owner sees your message.

Note that being able to search for all Kryptomons using specific filters and see if they’re available for sale also gives the ability for interested breeders and traders to quickly determine where there might be an oversupply of a particular type of Kryptomon, or where there is low supply but high demand. 😉 This will act as a signal for breeders to determine what type of Kryptomons they should breed and sell.

                                                                                                                            .  .  .

Find only Kryptomons that are for sale 💰

If you’re in a hurry and didn’t want to go through the nerve wrecking ups and downs of placing a bid on a Kryptomon, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered too! Simply hit this nifty little switch on the top right hand corner of the screen and the marketplace will now only show you Kryptomons that have been put up for sale!

Convenient isn’t it?

                                                                                                                            .  .  .

Did someone say… loot boxes?

Loot boxes are now available for sale on the marketplace! Trainers looking to buy them however, should be aware of 2 key points:

1) Loot boxes will not be viewable or useable until the game launches
While your wallet has stored the information that you own loot boxes, the ability to see and unlock them for the goodies they contain will only come on the 13th of December 2021 when the game launches!

2) Loot boxes cannot be traded or sold
Trainers will always have the ability to purchase loot boxes via the Kryptomon marketplace, so there is no resell value in holding loot boxes. They are meant solely as a means of acquiring the necessary items to properly take care of your Kryptomons.

                                                                                                                            .  .  .

真的吗?!?! 🚀

That’s right! Chinese and Spanish Kryptomon trainers will soon be able to view the marketplace in your native languages as the team are hard at work on a Chinese and Spanish translation for the marketplace even now.

Though this functionality won’t be available at launch, it’s definitely in the cards and will be something that comes sooner rather than later.

Coming soon!

                                                                                                                            .  .  .

Transfer For Free 🎉

A large barrier to entry was the inability to transfer Kryptomons between wallets. Let’s assume that you’ve convinced a friend to give Kryptomon a go and you’d like to give him one of your Kryptomons to start him off.

Previously the only way of doing this was for you to sell him your Kryptomon on one of our partner marketplaces for a high price (so that no one else snaps it up immediately) and then return to your friend the funds used to “buy” your Kryptomon. Not only did you have to pay gas fees for 2 separate transactions, you also paid a fee to the marketplace for buying an egg.

To curb this, egg transfers between friends or people you trust will be free while using the Kryptomon market. You’ll still have to pay gas fees once (since those go to the BSC and isn’t something we can control) but it’ll be a much more streamlined process compared to what it was before.

Simply head on over to the My Assets tab to find all the Kryptomons you own. Hit the “Transfer” button on the Kryptomon you’d like to give to your friend and know that you’ve done your good deed for the day in bringing one more trainer to the Kryptomon family.

Did we also mention that we don’t charge to list your Kryptomons for sale and for cancelling those listings? You can do those for free! (besides gas fees of course)

                                                                                                                            .  .  .

BSC Issues

As most of you are no doubt aware, the BSC has been congested as of late. This has in turn caused Subgraph, the blockchain indexing tool of choice for all NFT marketplaces (including us) to suffer delays of up to 50 minutes.

What does this mean for users?

Trainers can still initiate and complete transactions (eg: buy, sell, bid or transfer Kryptomons). However, the delay in indexing blockchain data means that the marketplace won’t know this has happened until much later.

To reiterate, the Kryptomon that you’ve just attempted to buy has been bought successfully! It’s sitting safe in your wallet waiting for you, though it won’t appear on your My Assets tab until some time has passed.

Unfortunately, this isn’t something that we can control and is a problem suffered by many projects across the BSC. At time of writing, the indexing delay is up to 34 minutes and we’ve included a banner on the top of the marketplace to keep trainers updated.

34 minute indexing delay!

                                                                                                                            .  .  .

The Show Must Go On!

Despite the congestion issues with the BSC, we’ve decided to proceed with the launch of the Kryptomon marketplace as planned. We simply ask that trainers be aware of the indexing issues and to stay patient after initiating a transaction.

This marks an important step forward for all of us in the Kryptomon family. As detailed in this article, we’re now in control of our own fate. Not only can we focus on building out features that will best benefit our community, the funds received from the transaction fees will be put to use in order to further improve Kryptomon!

As usual, let us know your thoughts and feedback on the new marketplace on our social media channels. What is the ONE feature you think we should focus on next that would have a huge impact on the marketplace?

See you in game, fellow trainer. (Only 3 more days!)

PS: A huge shoutout to the small team of beta-testers that have been hard at work testing the different features over the past week!

Kryptomon — Version 1 Begins

Hello trainers, welcome back to the wonderful world of Kryptomon.

As I begin penning (typing really…) down this article, I can’t help but reminisce at how far we’ve come since our humble beginnings more than 8 months ago. In the first ever Kryptomon Medium post on the 11th of April 2021, a small team of Pokemon lovers had just sat down together to dream up what would eventually become Kryptomon.

With the launch of Version 1 today, this marks the most significant milestone the Kryptomon team and community have achieved since then. There have been ups and downs in this journey, celebrations of success and more failures than we can count, but by gods we pushed past all of it to make today a reality.

For trainers who are mostly excited about the new Caring mechanism that’s been released with V1, feel free to skip past this first section and head down to “Version 1 — Caring for your Kryptomon”. For the OG trainers though, the ones who’ve been with us since the very beginning, this first section is a trip down memory lane for you.

                                                                                                                            .  .  .

It all began with a simple egg

All the memories

Remember the first eggs? We were a much smaller team back then, with nothing but our passion for the Kryptomon dream keeping us going. We had no assets, no lore and no advisors to help guide us through the wild west that is the crypto space. Never mind the support of a AAA game studio, back then we didn’t even have a Telegram group!

Fast forward 8 months and it’s a wondrous feeling to see how the Kryptomon team and family have grown. 🔥 We now produce different assets and images that you see on our social media channels on a daily basis, have an entire team of people working behind the scenes to help Professor Koa uncover the mysteries of where Kryptomons came from… Heck, the team has grown so large that we now have to do separate team standups to make sure everyone’s kept in the loop!

Our board of advisors has also grown! Having seen Kryptomon’s potential to be a game changer in the crypto gaming space, we now boast of several high profile advisors who have a wealth of experience across various fields that we can draw from. Among them are the ex CTO of Sony Playstation and the ex Director of Pokerstars!

And that’s barely scratching the many achievements we’ve made in just 8 months! Our very own Kryptomon marketplace, the capability to directly buy KMON with fiat via the Simplex integration, a content partnership with IGN… the list goes on.

From the first sketches of Kryptomon to thousands of procedurally generated pets ready to battle by your side!

The biggest change however, is the Kryptomon community, the Kryptomon family. We’re now 93,000 strong on Telegram, 110k on Twitter and so much more on the various other social media channels. Many of you have done so much for Kryptomon, from offering feedback to taking the time to beta test new features before we release them to the public. Listing all the contributions would require an entire article on its own so I won’t try to do that here, but thank you. It isn’t a stretch to say that without all of you, the Kryptomon team wouldn’t be where we are today. 💓

                                                                                                                            .  .  .

Version 1 — Caring for your Kryptomon

Are you ready to take your second step in becoming the greatest Kryptomon trainer of all time? In October you hatched and met your Kryptomon partners for the first time and the time has finally come to start… taking care of them! They’re just babies after all!

With great power comes great responsibility. Though your Kryptomon partners will some day grow into elemental powerhouses capable of calling down lightning to level mountains, right now they need us to bring out all of that hidden potential within them. Being a trainer is more than just calling out attacks in the heat of battle after all!

                                                                                                                            .  .  .

The Care Mechanism

Every Kryptomon is unique and there are plenty of things to discover about them, just like how you would a real pet! They have likes and dislikes, varying levels of resistance to disease and will get hungry over time if you don’t feed them! It’ll be up to you to make sure they’re well taken care of and kept in the pink of health. Be warned, failure to do so will see them fall into a deep, deep sleep — frozen for the rest of time in the Kryptomon’s version of death.

We’ve previously covered the individual care mechanics in great detail in a separate article so we won’t repeat that here. For more information on how you can take care of your Kryptomons and the benefits of doing so, check out our Whitepaper 2.0 which outlines the various features that have been implemented!

                                                                                                                            .  .  .

Game Launch FAQ

The game has been released, why can’t I play?

Both as a reward to our stalwart community who have supported us through thick and thin, and also as a safety measure from a technical perspective, we’ve decided to only allow trainers who hold at least 1 Kryptomon NFT by 11.59pm UTC on the 12th of December 2021 to access the game.

If you weren’t one of them, don’t worry! Each trainer allowed access to the game will also receive an additional invite pass which will allow them to invite one friend of their choice to the game. So… start some conversations on the Telegram group! Make some friends! Who knows? That person you’re chatting to might offer you both an invite to the game and also become a lifelong friend you might otherwise never have met!

                                                                                                                            .  .  .

Closing Thoughts

In a mere 8 months, the Kryptomon family has grown from a team of starry eyed gaming enthusiasts to a community that now numbers in the hundred thousands. From struggling to create our own graphics, we’ve now just launched a fully functioning Version 1 of the game! And we’re just getting started!

With Version 1.1 of the game, our very own Kryptomon debit card, a Kryptomon comic, the ability to buy Kryptomon NFTs directly via your credit card and plenty more in the works, make sure you keep watching this space while you feed and train your Kryptomon partners.

The world tournaments and battles to save the world against the evil forces of darkness will come in time, but for now your cute little partners need a little love, some food and lots of training to bring out all of the hidden potential inside them. As an added bonus for being one of the first few players to ever begin training your Kryptomon, you’ll have that competitive advantage over newer players when battles do begin!

See you in game trainers.

Money Problems

“FOUR… THREE…TWO…ONE!”, the crowd chanted in sync as all eyes turned towards the projection of a clock high above the night sky.

“HAPPY NEW YEAR!”

Whoops of excitement and the clink of glasses filled the opulent ballroom, the crowd toasting the new year with bottles of champagne. But a normal crowd this was not, a difference I felt all too keenly as soon as Eva and I arrived at the Keystone Bank’s new year celebration.

Those glasses of champagne being handed out? The waiters were sure to remind everyone how all 50 bottles were sponsored by one of the guests, a generous donation at $10,000 a bottle. A Rolex or three, the collection of sports cars with names I can’t pronounce lining the driveway and it was clear that this was a party for members of society who regularly came into contact with the upper echelons of the Keystone Bank.

Eva looked amazing, dressed up in a red dress that really brought out the color of her eyes. No stranger to the trappings of high society, Eva blended in like a fish in water, fielding questions and somehow keeping me from saying anything stupid the whole night.

“Just smile and think about the grant we need. I don’t like this any more than you do but you need to find Embie and the lab could desperately use an upgrade, so suck it up!” I remember her mouthing to me without ever losing that megawatt smile that seemed permanently affixed to her face.

“Hey you’re the one that wanted to play James Bond and come tonight!” I fired back.

“It’s not like we had any better leads. The bank started pulling our funding and this was our only chance at finding out why. So smile, start mingling and maybe someone in this crowd will be able to explain why we’ve lost more than 40% of the grant.”

I sighed. She was right of course, but there was just something about the pretentiousness of it all, the dagger hiding behind every smile that made me wish I was back at the lab and working on the pink serum. But Embie’s been missing for over two months now and if this party is what it took to get me closer to solving the pink serum and finding Embie, then that’s what I’ll do.

                                          .  .  .

Three…excruciating… hours later, we had our answer.

                                          .  .  .

A Plan of Attack

“It’s just not possible!” Eva exclaimed hotly, stuffing three French fries into her mouth at the same time, all semblance of the social butterfly that brushed shoulders with society’s finest nary an hour ago completely gone. “There were no reported hatchings of Kryptomon before us, so how could they have progressed so far, so quickly?”

“It’s not impossible,” I replied, “and keep your voice down!”. The McDonalds was packed with children running amok and a few tired looking parents taking a break at nearby tables. Not that I expected any of them to be secret spies attempting to listen in on our conversation, but in the world of Kryptomon research with stakes as high as ours, one can never be too sure.

“It’s possible that they had a better team and were better equipped. We lost most of the lab when the fire happened and research has slowed because of it.” I continued.

“But man-made serum?” Eva interjected. “We don’t even understand what the pink serum is, never mind being able to reproduce it on a consistent basis!”

I paused, my retort about Diabaté’s team simply being better funded dying in my throat. Unless the Kryptomons had hatched for Diabaté before they did for us, it was… unlikely that anyone could have discovered the pink moon serum and devised a method of creating it so quickly.

“There’s only one way to find out” Eva said with finality. Crossing her arms and leaning back in her seat, “we’ve got to go see for ourselves how this Diabaté’s managed to do it.”

I sighed, knowing it would have come to this eventually. As incredulous as it sounded, corporate espionage was part of the game we played when we stepped into the role of Kryptomon researchers.

“To Africa then?” I asked, leaning back in my own seat while meeting her already grinning eyes.

“To Africa we go”.

Kryptomon Power-Ups are finally here! Wondering what they are, their utility, and how to obtain them?

DEVLOG_POST

Kryptomon Power-Ups are finally here! Wondering what they are, their utility, and how to obtain them? To get all your questions answered deep dive into the third edition of our Dev Log brought to you by our SVP, Brian Bento aka Hack1ge.

Hi everyone — Brian aka Hack1ge here again! For those of you who haven’t read my last Dev Log — I’m the Chief Product Officer and SVP of Game Development here at Kryptomon. I’m also known in the community as the supervillain, final boss, Frieza, Thanos — every good story needs a bad guy, what can I say.

So first of all, what are Power-Ups?

As a Kryptomon trainer, you know that one of the key aspects of the game is our caring / Tamagotchi mechanic. This is foundational and impacts everything from training to battles. The caring boost power-ups are NFTs that you can own that improve the efficiency of your caring activities for all of the Kryptomon you own — everything from feeding to health to training.

In every NFT we release there should be a reason behind it, what’s the reason the Power-Ups were born?

As many of you know I’m a huge proponent of having actual utility and usage for NFTs when we create them and it’s a pet peeve of mine when projects drop NFTs that don’t do anything. These power-ups will work straight away and they are designed to help reduce your reliance on items in the caring system. As battles ramp up and training becomes more important, trainers will have a heavy dependence on caring items and so these power-ups are a way for you to reduce the number you need in your daily gameplay. In addition, the training boost will help reduce the time needed to train and increase your Kryptomons strength in battle faster.

Where can we get them?

There are a number of ways you can get the power-ups — first and foremost they will be used as a reward from the weekly quest lines specifically for quest 10. Each week if you complete quest 10 you will receive a random token that can be used in our new blueprint blockchain crafting system to purchase or upgrade the power-ups.

Secondly, the tokens will eventually be sold in our new Item Shop on the Kryptomon Marketplace and will be available for players interested in speeding up their progress to upgrade the NFTs. In addition, the tokens will also be purchasable by candies received from our KMON staking system.

Also as a special bonus to our current players, we will be offering a one-time Launch Day bundle that allows you to purchase 1 of each token (food, health, toy, and training) with a chance to randomly win a pre-upgraded NFT of various levels. This one-time deal will give players a chance to get a head start on their caring boosts and could be as much as a $250 discount.

Can we sell them in the future?

All of the power-ups will be able to be sold on the Kryptomon marketplace in the upcoming release. However, the tokens used for upgrades are what are known as “bound” and cannot be sold. A “bound” item is any NFT that is used in our crafting system that cannot be sold or transferred from the wallet.

Will Power-Ups play a huge part in the future of competitive Kryptomon battles?

These caring boost power-ups are not designed to enhance your Kryptomon’s abilities in battle but they can have a dramatic impact on the future of competitive play. For example, the ability to have Love boost up for increased speed could be a huge factor for high-level competitive play, and having these power-ups will allow you to more easily keep Kryptomon in this state.

Also, battles cause a Kryptomon to lose their health and so over time, this can limit the amount of battles you can complete in a day. As more game modes are released more battles will be required — especially in PVP where ladder play will not be limited and players can play all day long. These power-ups become a key factor in determining how much you can advance per day.

Can we expect more Power Ups in the future?

These power-ups are focused primarily on the caring / Tamagotchi aspect of the game and likely are the only ones we will release for this purpose. However, the technology used to create our blockchain-based blueprint system will open the door for all kinds of future enhancements to gameplay through NFTs. I’d definitely keep your eyes out for more information on things like armor which use a similar system and will drastically impact your power in battle.

Any closing thoughts/messages to the community?

As always, we love to hear from the community when we roll out new features and this time is no different. This is our first time using our new blockchain blueprint system and we are excited about the prospects for the future because adding new NFTs and new blueprints requires almost no code at all. These first NFT items are a huge milestone for us as a project towards our future vision of being the premier battle RPG game on the blockchain.

Devs Log #1 | Behind the creation of the Kryptomon Mobile App

Hi everyone — Brian aka Hack1ge here! For those of you who don’t know I’m the Chief Product Officer and SVP of Game Development here at Kryptomon.

I’ve been involved in the project for well over a year whether it was as an investor or helping the team out on early game balancing / breeding. My love of gaming started when I was 5 years old playing Mario and Zelda on my NES console and evolved into a long-standing relationship with MMOs. I’ve had the opportunity to help consult on a number of them over the years specifically related to PVP design, balancing, and eSports.

With the Open Beta release of our Android client, which launched exactly 7 days ago — we thought it would be a good time to run through what this journey has been like for us coming from a purely web-based game to the mobile platform.

Why mobile? Isn’t the web/PC enough?

The evolution of gaming has come a long way from the early days when I used to play WoW on my PC as part of the alpha testers group. The PCs back then were less powerful than the phones we carry around in our pockets or the tablets we sit on the couch with. This is clearly reflected in the fact that roughly 60% of all gamers play on mobile devices now. Our goal at Kryptomon is to bring our game to the masses and so it was a no-brainer for us to target mobile platforms. In addition, many of the game features we have such as Tamagotchi really are designed around the need for consistent access to the game. As many of our Trainer’s club members will attest, the mobile game helps a lot with training and caring for your Kryptomon.

What challenges have you faced while making an NFT-based mobile game?

The Gamefi / blockchain gaming industry as a whole is very much in its infancy right now — I’ve been doing development for over 20+ years and have seen the rise and fall of my technologies. We are very early in this adoption of blockchain technologies and so the most difficult part is that many tools/code libraries do not have the maturity level that you would typically expect when building gaming infrastructure. In addition, as many of you know, there is still a fair amount of pushback from mainstream technology companies who are trying to maintain their market share and stop disruptive blockchain technology from advancing in the gaming industry.

Any update on iOS?

As a long-term iOS user, I definitely felt the disappointment of realizing that one of the companies I felt was always pushing the envelope and a leader in innovation was so adamantly trying to stifle the advancement of blockchain technology. Unfortunately, this will be a very common issue during the transition from Web2 to Web3 — the old Web2 companies will try to keep control and maintain their positions in the market.

We have been actively treating our iOS game client like a supported production release for almost 2 months now. Every feature that goes into our web and Android games is also supported immediately on iOS. We have had a small group of about roughly 15 alpha testers who have been using it to ensure the game works and is stable.

!!!SPOILER ALERT!!!

I am happy to announce — we have recently received tentative approval to run our Closed Beta for the Trainer’s club so stay tuned for more details soon. I am cautiously optimistic but given our history so far with Apple we will have to see how this progresses as there are additional steps required to move us beyond that release and Apple has shut down other blockchain-based games in the past after previously approving them.

What does the future hold for Kryptomon in the mobile space?

As many of you know, we have pretty high ambitions at Kryptomon in terms of where we want to take this game. First up for us is to finish building out our game modes which will include Challenge-a-Friend, Story Challenge, Battle League, and Tournaments. These will all be designed with mobile first in mind. We hope to have all players moved over to a mobile game client as soon as possible as the web version of Unity games can be very buggy and are limited in terms of what we can do with online networked play.

Longer term, as I told Umberto, I was only going to join Kryptomon if given the freedom to bring something to the gaming industry / blockchain gaming that the world has never seen before. Unfortunately, our CMO has me under strict orders when it comes to 3D metaverse spoilers but I hope soon to showcase what the team has been working on, and for those of you that know my background you likely have a good idea on what may be coming. I promise it won’t disappoint...

Feedback?

As always, the team at Kryptomon is very committed to our community and always willing to listen to feedback from our players. You should know you can always reach out to me or any of the mods — either on Telegram or Discord with questions, comments, or concerns.

Devs Log #2 | Physital: Bridging Two World Assets

Leading the charge into “phygital” wearables, Davide Matteazzi, Kryptomon’s Chief Merchandising Officer, brings a wealth of experience from his time at various global fashion brands including Diesel and Calvin Klein Jeans. “Digital wearables have a bright future and show a clear path for NFT longevity,” says Matteazzi. Our second edition of Devs Log brings into the spotlight one of the key figures that developed the soon-to-be-released “Physital NFT” collection.

Hi Davide, can you please introduce yourself?

Hi, I am Davide Matteazzi, I am Italian and a happy husband and father of two fantastic kids.I joined Kryptomon’s leadership team in May 2022 with the ambition to develop modern merchandising which merges physical merchandise with digital NFT in-game utility and metaverse wearables.I have been working in merchandising leadership roles in global fashion brands such as Diesel and Calvin Klein for almost 20 years. In the last few months, fashion brands started to look into the Metaverse, and “NFT” became the new “trend”. It was time for me to go out of “my comfort zone” and I decided to challenge myself and be an early adopter of the Web.3 revolution. I met the passionate Kryptomon team and I decided to embrace the project as I strongly believe in its potential; there is a massive opportunity for blockchain gaming to ride the upward momentum of wearable and link it with utility for their in-game audiences to create value for the pieces beyond simple merchandising.

Can you explain what “Physital” means?

As you know, the terminology “phygital” is becoming part of our daily vocabulary when we are talking about a combination of physical and digital objects, mainly done by fashion companies with the ambition to embrace the digital world. With the launch of the “NFT Hunter Club’’, we aim to be the first blockchain gaming company to merge our digital world with physical elements in a very impactful and meaningful way, and for that reason, we decided to introduce the naming “Physital”.

How did the term Physital come to life?

When I started my experience in Kryptomon last May, I started to study the approach of fashion brands entering the blockchain planet. Then, with the team, we decided to work on an innovative project where every single NFT element has an in-game utility. The “NFT Hunter Club” is an exclusive “members only” club, with the focus of connecting the digital and physical world by incorporating 3 elements:1. Digital collectible items2. Limited edition physical goods3. In-game NFT items that boost your gaming experience.

What is the difference between Physital and Phygital?

Good question… with “Physital” we aim to build a new chapter of the Phygital projects. Physital starts from a blockchain gaming company that enters into the physical world with a utility in the NFT items developed.

Will the merch always be tied to a digital counterpart?

This is just our first merchandising project.Kryptomon is a gaming company and our ambition is to create the best blockchain game as we are true believers that NFT and tokens are gonna be the biggest evolution in the gaming space for years. We want our players to enjoy Kryptomon games. At the same time, we believe it is key to make Kryptomon an impactful brand, and merchandising is one of the pillars to do that, together with partnerships and collaborations. We aim to create modern merchandising which involves our community and, indeed, it will be mainly tied to a digital counterpart with a utility towards the game.We have the opportunity to explore, test, and build something new… happy to receive any input.

Will there be more Physital NFTs in the future?

Absolutely yes, we aim to work on other unexpected projects… stay tuned!

Why should we be excited about the Binance NFT Sale?

The “Physital NFT” collection is a pioneering project as it is one of the first of its kind, we are sure it will be seen as a benchmark for several companies.Since its announcement, several media outlets all over the world have already shown their interest in the project and are looking forward to the sale and its results.Content-wise, we built a very rich product, a mystery box that includes several physical and digital collectible items. The Mystery Box sale will be conducted on a first-come-first-serve basis over four different rounds and will last until the items run out of stock. The main sale will take place on the Binance NFT marketplace exclusively on the 9th of September at 11:00 UTC. Meanwhile, the secondary sale will take place on Kryptomon’s own marketplace on the Kryptomon website shortly after, in an exclusive sale that will happen in three rounds. For more information visit the official site:https://www.kryptomon.co/hunter
