DevLog #6 | Kryptomon Market Currency Transition

It’s time to talk tokens! This week, we announced that the Kryptomon Marketplace will be transitioning from Binance Coin (BNB) to our native token, $KMON. To gain a deeper understanding of the reasoning behind this change and the timeline for its implementation, we conducted an interview with our Founder and CEO, Umberto Canessa Cerchi.

What is the BNB to $KMON “transition” and what is the reason behind it?

Since the beginning of Kryptomon we saw the $KMON coin as the unique currency in our universe, but of course, at the very beginning was also useful to keep using BNB cause is way more used, but now we finally got to the point where we can finally ditch BNB and start only using $KMON everywhere in the Marketplace.

The reason behind its quite simple, increase the utility of the $KMON, which at the end of the day is what will really increase its value.

What would happen if we do not change our listed Kryptomons from $BNB to $KMON coin when the transition takes place?

I would say nothing, bad, but those sales won’t be shown anymore, so that’s why I highly suggest moving your sales from BNB to $KMON. Also because as some people might have seen we are now releasing a new onboarding flow for new users, making it simpler for them to buy their first Kryptomon, and if your sale is on BNB it won’t be proposed.

And I know that you might think that the $KMON is highly volatile, but again we got you covered somewhere close to the end of Q1 we will release an update of the Marketplace which will allow you to actually define the cost of your Kryptomon in USD Dollars, and then the system will take to keep the price in $KMON updated :D

Do we still need BNB as a gas fee when making transactions in the Kryptomon Marketplace?

Yes, for the time being, but as soon as the full $KMON transition is done, we will take care also of removing BNB gas fees, and also have the gas fees paid in $KMON :)

Are there any additional utilities planned in the future for the $KMON coin?

No spoiler here, but in general what our community can expect from us is always the same, we are continuously working to improve the experience and the utility of all of our products and tokens.

When shall we expect the transition to take place?

Also here we took a baby step approach, so first of all as mentioned, the update on the Marketplace will go live later on in Q1, but in the meantime, we do encourage everyone to already change their sales from BNB to $KMON, because by the end of January, the new onboarding will go live and we are going to reactivate user acquisition campaigns, so I’m sure everyone who has a Kryptomon on sale don’t wanna miss the opportunity to propose his Kryptomon to a new possible buyer ;)

Welcome to our DevLog #5, the first one of 2023! This year we are starting the year all in with the release of our dedicated Pink Moon app.

To get all the juicy details on this exciting release, we’ve interviewed two key team members who have been instrumental in its ideation and development, Maurice and Umberto.

Introduction

Umberto: Hello everyone! My name is Umberto and I am the founder and CEO of Kryptomon. It’s great to see new faces here. I’m always happy to chat and share more about Kryptomon! You can generally find me on our various Telegram channels or once per month hosting our Founder’s Talk, a dedicated live stream we broadcast through YouTube and Twitch where we deep dive into all things Kryptomon. Thanks for having me!

And,

Maurice: Hi all, Maurice here again! For those who don’t know me. I am Kryptomon’s Chief Creative Officer. The guy who made up the whole moon concept. And very happy to share with you our next step in treasure hunting. Called Pink Moon!

Umberto

How would you describe the process of creating the dedicated Pink Moon App?

Tough! When we initiated the project was around March ’22 and we thought it would have taken us no more than a couple of months to bring it to life, but while we were building it the requirements kept changing based on the feedback we received from the community and so it took way more than expected 😀

The browser-based game seemed to work, why was it important to create a dedicated mobile app?

The browser-based it has always been a first iteration, it wasn't stable, scalable, and good enough to support more players and more activities, so it was needed to have a native and dedicated app.

Do we automatically get whitelisted when we use a wallet with a Kryptomon NFT in it?

No, the process is still the same, the players who have a Kryptomon NFT will be able to whitelist, but they will need to do it via the app and confirm the whitelisting :) But for those who forget about it, we got you cover cause the mobile app is now also sending push notifications for example when the hunt starts.

Can we expect more features and activities during the monthly event now that the Pink Moon App is finally here?

Yes, I cannot say when and how, we have a lot of ideas in the backlog on how we can improve the hunt experience, what is certain is that finally having the mobile app gives us a solid base on top of which we can build up the next generation of gameplay experience.

Maurice

Why is it now called “Kryptomon: Pink Moon” instead of “Treasure Hunt”?

Because by just calling it a regular treasure hunt, it was not connected to the whole Kryptomon universe. We are creating a complete experience here. So it was highly needed to conceptualize it and connect it to the Kryptomon Lore. There the legacy of professor Koa was born.

“The Legacy of Koa” Does this mean Koa will be an integral part of the Kryptomon: Pink Moon storyline?

Yes, he is! but also not.. since Koa is not with us anymore… (read our Komic series). But his knowledge will be used in the legacy of the technology he developed regarding the pink energy. Like in this first version of the Pink Moon app his AR goggles. Go test them in the next hunt!

We celebrate different full moons every month, so what’s so special about the “Pink Moon”?

The Pink Moon is where it all started. In search of the origins of Kryptomon, we realized we started our project during the super pink moon of 16 April 2021. With this in mind, we embedded the moon cycle into our story. And the pink force was found.

Question for both:

Final question, what’s your favorite full moon and why?

Umberto: To be honest, I don’t have a favorite one, to me actually full moons were always something I never really cared about, but now I do cause I know that during that period of time, there are Kryptomons to catch, and there thousands of trainers hunting, this gives me joy.

Maurice: Great question! I love all full moons. But a supermoon like a pink moon is the one I love most. Also because they are rare, these are going to be special hunts.

The open beta of the long-awaited new game mode, Challenge-a-Friend is finally here and we asked Tyler (aka Towa) — Kryptomon’s Technical Customer Support Manager, all about it!

Learn all you need to know about this exciting head-to-head release from Kryptomon and get ready to challenge your friends!

What is Kryptomon’s “Challenge-a-Friend”?

The “Challenge-a-Friend” feature is the first taste of battle in Genesis. It’s the payoff for all the training users have put in the last year and a chance for users to learn the battle mechanics before Story Mode/Tournament release!

So, how does it work?
  1. Login on a mobile device that supports the new feature (Android, iOS, Emulator).
  2. Add the user you wish to challenge to the friend list.
  3. Once accepted, press the sword icon next to their name and wait for them to accept the battle.

4. Select between 1–3 Kryptomon and the spells you wish to take into battle.

5. Battle it out!

Why is Challenge-a-Friend an essential piece of the Kryptomon game?

Well, it stands as a foundation for future updates to build on! Now that the framework is built new spells can be added without needing to build new infrastructure.

It is also the first time users can interact in-game with their Kryptomon and I believe that social interactions are core to a positive gaming experience!

How should we find opponents once the feature is released?

Once the feature is released users should make sure they are in our Discord and Telegram to find trainers to battle! There are many trainers of different strengths and levels in both areas so pop in and make a new friend or rival!

What was the most challenging aspect of this feature that made you want to rage quit?

While testing the feature, I had to play many battles against the features creator, Brian (aka Hack1ge). After the first 10 losses in a row, I was ready to rage quit for good but more testing had to be done!

From the Kryptomon team, who do you think will be your rival?

Axel, one of our many amazing moderation staff, seems to be my closest rival! We have had many close games that have come to single-digit health and each time we battle we both get stronger!

As always, we love to hear from the community when we roll out new features and this time is no different.

Please share with us your thoughts about Challenge-a-Friend in our Telegram or Discord community!

Hey nerd,

It feels weird, writing this with everything that’s happened. But we’ve been trading these emails back and forth for so long that it’s practically a habit. Keeps me calm, helps me focus.

It’s been tough lately, but we’re doing everything we can. Can you believe that Wang, Eva and I are now considered the “world’s foremost experts” in all things Kryptomon? Hell, we sure as hell don’t feel that way.

Everyday we’re one step closer to reverse engineering that portal Charles Pound disappeared into, and we realize just how little we really know about Kryptomons or this other world he was talking about. But that doesn’t stop the magazines and the press blowing everything out of proportion like they always do — They even nicknamed me “The Strongest Trainer”.

The strongest trainer… Heh, what a load of horseshit.

Absolute Power

In the face of absolute power, tactics and strategies amount to nothing.

I don’t remember exactly which fight in the arena where I first heard that, but I can’t stop thinking about it ever since the showdown with Pound. His Dark Kryptomons were… unstoppable.

What was the point of all of that training Fyllo and I went through? We had the numbers on our side, we had Tanya and Fyllo’s strength, we had the battle experience of the best trainers… But in the end what use was any of it against the Dark Kryptomons?

What would you do man? Everyday it gets harder and harder for me to get out of bed and come to the lab, to smile at the rest of the team and work on the portal. They need me to be strong, to be the person who tells them everything is going to be all right. Everyone’s ignoring the elephant in the room and just trying to push on one day at a time.

So what if we find this new world? We don’t even have the ability to protect ourselves from the Dark Kryptomons, who knows what we’ll find on the other end of that portal?

Kyros the scientist… or Kyros the trainer?

The world doesn’t need Kyros the scientist. Heck, this lab doesn’t even need Kyros the scientist. We’ve brought in some new faces, and I hear good things about a lady called Jeanne Dunn. Kinda reminds me of you really, brilliant researcher who tends to lock herself in the lab and get lost in her work.

Heh, speaking of which — I know you’ve always complained about her, but Lise’s really come through for all of us in the lab. She’s still up to her usual antics, but it’s one of the few things that puts a smile on everyone’s faces. Bet you didn’t see that coming when you agreed to that internship program did you?

No, what this world and this lab needs is Kyros the trainer. I need Kyros the trainer. I can’t keep pretending that I don’t still have nightmares about the helplessness and the frustration of being completely outclassed by Pound. Fyllo and I… we’re never going to be that weak ever again.

It’s training time

Eva understood this as well. She’s off on her own journey but I need to do my part as well. With most of my work handed over to Wang and Jeanne, it’s time for Fyllo and I to double down on improving our strength.

With these guys on the job, it’s not even a question of if, but when the portal will be opened. And this time I won’t fail again. Whatever this new world throws at us, I’ll protect us all.

Kryptomon Power-Ups are finally here! Wondering what they are, their utility, and how to obtain them? To get all your questions answered deep dive into the third edition of our Dev Log brought to you by our SVP, Brian Bento aka Hack1ge.

Hi everyone — Brian aka Hack1ge here again! For those of you who haven’t read my last Dev Log — I’m the Chief Product Officer and SVP of Game Development here at Kryptomon. I’m also known in the community as the supervillain, final boss, Frieza, Thanos — every good story needs a bad guy, what can I say.

So first of all, what are Power-Ups?

As a Kryptomon trainer, you know that one of the key aspects of the game is our caring / Tamagotchi mechanic. This is foundational and impacts everything from training to battles. The caring boost power-ups are NFTs that you can own that improve the efficiency of your caring activities for all of the Kryptomon you own — everything from feeding to health to training.

In every NFT we release there should be a reason behind it, what’s the reason the Power-Ups were born?

As many of you know I’m a huge proponent of having actual utility and usage for NFTs when we create them and it’s a pet peeve of mine when projects drop NFTs that don’t do anything. These power-ups will work straight away and they are designed to help reduce your reliance on items in the caring system. As battles ramp up and training becomes more important, trainers will have a heavy dependence on caring items and so these power-ups are a way for you to reduce the number you need in your daily gameplay. In addition, the training boost will help reduce the time needed to train and increase your Kryptomons strength in battle faster.

Where can we get them?

There are a number of ways you can get the power-ups — first and foremost they will be used as a reward from the weekly quest lines specifically for quest 10. Each week if you complete quest 10 you will receive a random token that can be used in our new blueprint blockchain crafting system to purchase or upgrade the power-ups.

Secondly, the tokens will eventually be sold in our new Item Shop on the Kryptomon Marketplace and will be available for players interested in speeding up their progress to upgrade the NFTs. In addition, the tokens will also be purchasable by candies received from our KMON staking system.

Also as a special bonus to our current players, we will be offering a one-time Launch Day bundle that allows you to purchase 1 of each token (food, health, toy, and training) with a chance to randomly win a pre-upgraded NFT of various levels. This one-time deal will give players a chance to get a head start on their caring boosts and could be as much as a $250 discount.

Can we sell them in the future?

All of the power-ups will be able to be sold on the Kryptomon marketplace in the upcoming release. However, the tokens used for upgrades are what are known as “bound” and cannot be sold. A “bound” item is any NFT that is used in our crafting system that cannot be sold or transferred from the wallet.

Will Power-Ups play a huge part in the future of competitive Kryptomon battles?

These caring boost power-ups are not designed to enhance your Kryptomon’s abilities in battle but they can have a dramatic impact on the future of competitive play. For example, the ability to have Love boost up for increased speed could be a huge factor for high-level competitive play, and having these power-ups will allow you to more easily keep Kryptomon in this state.

Also, battles cause a Kryptomon to lose their health and so over time, this can limit the amount of battles you can complete in a day. As more game modes are released more battles will be required — especially in PVP where ladder play will not be limited and players can play all day long. These power-ups become a key factor in determining how much you can advance per day.

Can we expect more Power Ups in the future?

These power-ups are focused primarily on the caring / Tamagotchi aspect of the game and likely are the only ones we will release for this purpose. However, the technology used to create our blockchain-based blueprint system will open the door for all kinds of future enhancements to gameplay through NFTs. I’d definitely keep your eyes out for more information on things like armor which use a similar system and will drastically impact your power in battle.

Any closing thoughts/messages to the community?

As always, we love to hear from the community when we roll out new features and this time is no different. This is our first time using our new blockchain blueprint system and we are excited about the prospects for the future because adding new NFTs and new blueprints requires almost no code at all. These first NFT items are a huge milestone for us as a project towards our future vision of being the premier battle RPG game on the blockchain.

Kryptomon — Koa’s Log #1

Kryptomon — Koa’s Log #1

Day #72 after the incident

It’s. Alive.

I don’t know why we were so surprised. Nobody recognized it at first but now that we’ve had more time to study them, all 10,000 of them are clearly in the shape of eggs. We just never thought something so… foreign would behave like something so mundane, just like the eggs that we see and eat everyday.

It’s been some time since we found the eggs. Was it by design or by chance that there were exactly 10,000 eggs? Is there a significance to this number? And how did something as huge as that just… disappear? Too much has happened lately that challenge everything we thought we knew about the world.

There’s so much we don’t know, but one thing is for certain. These eggs hold something never before seen on Earth, how else would you explain the variety in the different eggs? Some are bone chillingly cold while others are scalding hot. Even the structural integrity and material of the shells vary from a smooth diamond hard to a pliant earthy texture.

Tests will have to be run and we should have preliminary results shortly. We often watch movies of Iron Man and the Avengers, of demi gods and visitors from beyond our world. This might be our proof that alien life really does exist.

To ensure we have eyes on the tests at all times, surveillance footage of the lab has been set up to run 24/7. No matter what happens, we’ll catch it.

Kryptomon — Bringing Crypto to the Masses

What. A. Week!!

The past couple of days have been an absolute whirlwind of activity with the community sale and IDO taking place. A massive thank you to all of our partners and advisors who were working tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure everything ran smoothly. 🙏 Of course, we can’t forget about the overwhelming amount of support from all of our trainers, which saw the price of $KMON soaring from $0.006 and eventually settling at its current (at time of writing) price of $0.075.

With the IDO milestone complete, it’s time to turn our attention back to what attracted all of you to Kryptomon in the first place — the game! We also discuss below how our new partnership with Simplex will pave the way in catapulting Kryptomon into mainstream media.

                                                                                                                            .  .  .

The Problem with the Crypto Gaming Space

The crypto gaming space is gaining traction in the market, of that there is no doubt. With games like Axie Infinity now giving people the ability to earn a living and even save up enough money for a house in the Philippines, more and more people, regardless of their proficiency in the crypto space, are starting to realize that crypto gaming is a phenomenon that is here to stay.

Untapped Potential

At time of writing, it is estimated that there are approximately 41.9 million gamers in the crypto space. While that sounds like a large number, what if I told you that the current (non crypto) gaming industry estimates that there are roughly 2.5 billion gamers in the world? In 2019, Fortnite alone had 250 million registered users, 5x the number of gamers in the entire crypto space!

The crypto space has only tapped into 1.68% of potential gamers worldwide.

This would mean that crypto games have only tapped into 1.68% of potential gamers worldwide. Let that sink it for a little bit. A full 98% of all the gamers in the world have either:

  • Never heard of crypto games
  • Are worried and don’t feel confident in jumping into the crypto and crypto gaming space
  • Want to give crypto gaming a try, but have no idea how to go about doing it.
Getting Started is a Complex Process

Going back to what we’ve just said about Axie Infinity and the crypto market boom in general, it’s highly unlikely that the first case is true. And while it is very possible that a portion of gamers belong to the second category in how they’ve heard about the volatility of the crypto markets and aren’t looking to expand into crypto gaming any time soon, it’s more likely that a significant portion of these 98% gamers just don’t have the knowledge on how they can get set up and get started playing crypto games.

This was our experience as well, not just when introducing new trainers in Discord to Kryptomon, but also in our personal lives where we had to explain to our friends and family how to:

  • Set up Metamask
  • Explain what a wallet address is
  • Configure Metamask to use the Binance Smart Chain
  • Create a Binance Account
  • Buy some BNB
  • Transfer BNB over to your Metamask
  • Explain what gas fees are and why they fluctuate
  • How to use PancakeSwap to convert BNB to KMON

… the list goes on!

For some of the more seasoned veterans in the crypto space, this might seem like common knowledge. But for an 18 year old kid who just happened to see an ad of Kryptomon and his 56 year old mom and dad who’ve never used Binance before? All of the above is gibberish.

                                                                                                                            .  .  .

A New Partner — Simplex

On their website, Simplex is described as “A licensed financial institution which empowers its vast network of partners to accept the widest range of payment methods, including Visa, MasterCard, Apple Pay, SWIFT, SEPA, and more!” But for the crypto veterans out there that didn’t immediately recognize the name, here’s a quick reminder: Simplex is the company that provides a fiat-to-crypto gateway on Binance!

Using Simplex, one can purchase over 90+ cryptocurrencies using over 50 different fiat currencies. It’s not surprising that they’ve now integrated and provided services to over 350 partners in the world.

The full list of large and well known companies that utilizes Simplex’s services are is too numerous to list… but we’ve listed a few of their partners aside from Binance that you might just recognize: 😉

  • TrustWallet
  • Poloniex
  • Trezor
  • MyEtherWallet
  • KuCoin

and many more. For more information about Simplex partners, check out this link.

Kryptomon For The Masses with Simplex

This is where Kryptomon has a unique competitive advantage over the many crypto games out there. Our target audience isn’t just the 41.9 million crypto gamers, but all 2.5 billion gamers in the world. From every 18 year old who will pick up the easy to understand gameplay to all the 80’s kids feeling nostalgic for a little bit more of the Pokemon magic, Kryptomon wants YOU.

The first step in realizing that dream is to get rid of that complex 8 step process described above just to buy $KMON, and this new partnership with Simplex will allow us to do precisely that!

In the future, this means that just about anyone with a smartphone (yes, including that 18 year old kid with his 56 year old mom and dad) will be able to download the Kryptomon game onto their phone, which will come pre-loaded with a crypto wallet capable of storing $KMON. Via Simplex, they’ll be able to key in their debit/credit card details and purchase $KMON with fiat instantly, just like how you can purchase in game currency today with games like Clash of Clans or PUBG!

“We are thrilled to partner with Kryptomon to enable seamless and secure $KMON onramps for billions of gamers, globally”, — said Ari Last, VP Business Development at Simplex.

                                                                                                                            .  .  .

Final Thoughts 💭

From the start, Kryptomon has always been a game that we intended to bring to the general public. With the IDO now behind us, developmental focus has shifted back into making the game the best possible version of itself before the Phase 1 launch.

That doesn’t mean we aren’t already planning for the future and with industry titans like Simplex standing behind Kryptomon, it really will be an exciting journey to see just where Kryptomon will end up in a year’s time.

2.5 billion gamers, we’re coming for you!

Signing off for now. 😉

Kryptomon — Egg Lottery Winners

Hello trainers, welcome back to the wonderful world of Kryptomon. We’ve had plenty of big announcements lately, with our new game studio partner Room8 Studios and being the first NFT game to partner with Simplex. And we’re not done!

Our older trainers will remember that back on the 9th of August 2021, we launched an egg lottery event that would distribute 100 of the eggs that went unclaimed during the initial 10k giveaway to more deserving members of the community. It’s been just under 3 weeks and we’re excited to announce that the results are out!

                                                                                                                            .  .  .

Egg Lottery

We saw an overwhelming amount of support from our trainers. Just under 20,000 trainers participated in the lottery, spread out across 80 different geographical locations around the world. It’s amazing and heartening to think that Kryptomon is now a name that is known around the world.

Unfortunately, we only had 100 eggs to give away in this campaign. The selection process was randomized so…

Winners

Congratulations to all 100 of the lucky winners of the egg lottery campaign! The winning addresses will be listed down below so use CTRL + F to check if you’ve won. Also, winners will receive an email from Professor Koa announcing the fact, so make sure you check your emails!

As an added bonus, we’ve decided to airdrop the eggs to you for free! As thanks to the amazing community who’ve supported us throughout our journey, the Kryptomon team will shoulder the gas fees so trainers can just sit back, relax and wait for your eggs to show up in your wallet.

Gen 0 trainer

A final shoutout to one lucky trainer who received the rarest Gen 0 egg! Only 100 of them will ever exist in the Kryptomon universe. The only question is, were you the trainer that received it? 😉

                                                                                                                            .  .  .

Closing Thoughts

Today, 20,000 trainers participated in the egg lottery. But we’re not done yet! In fact, we’re just getting started. 20,000 is where we are today, but as we mentioned before in this article, our goal is the full 2.5 billion gamers in the world.

As an old Chinese proverb would have it: “The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step”. We might come from humble beginnings, but this will be Kryptomon’s first step towards all the gamers in the world.

2.5 billion soon-to-be trainers, we’re coming for you!

                                                                                                                            .  .  .

Kryptomon — Staking your $KMON

Hello trainers, welcome back to the wonderful world of Kryptomon. For those who tuned into our last Founders Talk session on Discord, you’ll know that our devs have been hard at work getting everything ready for the much anticipated $KMON staking feature. (No really, our devs can’t remember the last time they’ve taken a weekend off!)

Staking will begin on the 10th of September 2021, and this article will dive into everything you need to know about our newest feature. Before we hop into all the staking details though, for those of you who haven’t already joined us on Discord and Telegram, you might have missed out on these little gems.

Draft Designs from Room8 Studios

Remember that these are drafts that we’re working on with Room8 Studios, so they’re still subject to change. However, it’s important to recognize that what Room8 Studios have achieved a mere 2 and a half weeks in is nothing short of astounding and we’ll continue to share updates of our progress on our social media channels. So if you haven’t already, make sure to come join us on Telegram, Twitter and Discord!

The Eight Week Egg Lottery Campaign

To be more precise, on the 10th of September 2021 we’ll be launching the first of eight, 1 week long egg lotteries where trainers stand to win Kryptomon eggs!

Every week, a number of Kryptomon eggs will be up for grabs and we can confirm that there is a small chance you could even be the lucky winner of a Gen 0 egg! There are only 2 Gen 0 eggs up for grabs in the entire campaign and no one, not even the Kryptomon team can guarantee when or if they’ll be won.

To participate in the lottery, trainers will be required to stake their $KMON on the Kryptomon website in order to earn lottery tickets that can then be used in the lottery. There is no minimum amount required to participate so trainers could potentially just stake just one $KMON, earn and bet one ticket and still walk away a winner! 🎉

                                                                                                                            .  .  .

Our Rationale for the Egg Lotteries

Most staking pools out there today reward participants with the project’s native token. Stake CAKE for CAKE for example is a pool that works very well for PancakeSwap, but is that really what Kryptomon needs right now? 👀

At present we’re still a little way away from trainers being able to use your $KMON in game, which means creating a stake $KMON for $KMON pool would just result in trainers being able to grow their bag of $KMON in preparation for the game launch with no immediate benefit. Another possible scenario is that the growing amount of $KMON in circulation would just lead to stronger sell pressure, which we’re sure is not something any of our trainers would like to see.

The question was therefore: What can we offer with the new staking feature that would benefit both the game and our trainers the most?

Kryptomon Eggs?

After the success of our previous egg lottery campaign, we realized that we had severely underestimated how fast the Kryptomon community is growing and just how strong the demand is for eggs. There are currently approximately 6,000 Kryptomon eggs being traded and held amongst 33,000 odd trainers (if Discord is to be any guide).

While we do realize the importance of keeping supply scarce enough to ensure our eggs have value, as a blockchain game, it’s also important that we have enough players. What we don’t want to see happening is all 27,000 trainers (33,000–6000) without an egg losing interest and leaving the Kryptomon family due to the cost associated with getting your first Kryptomon.

It is for this reason that we’ve decided to create a staking feature that will allow lucky trainers to win the chance to become a Kryptomon trainer every week for 8 weeks. We believe we’ve found an ideal balance between keeping trainers engaged and also leaving plenty of demand for eggs when breeding is released.

Where are these eggs coming from?

As with the previous egg lottery, all eggs that will be used as prizes for this lottery come from the original 10,000 batch of airdropped eggs that went unclaimed and the 40,000 egg sale batch that weren’t purchased. The total supply of eggs has not changed, and we are once again simply redistributing them back to more deserving members of the community. 😉

                                                                                                                            .  .  .

Egg Lotteries… With A Twist

With all of that said, we’ve also included a few little twists in the lottery to make things more interesting, strategic and just a little bit more fun. Here are a couple of things you’ll want to consider when playing the lottery:

Staking Gives You Lottery Tickets

Staking $KMON rewards participants with tickets. The more $KMON you stake, the more tickets you earn. Each ticket is one entry into the current week’s lottery so by the simple law of probability, the more tickets you have in the current week’s lottery the higher your chances of actually winning an egg.

“But what about whales? They’ll just stake 500,000 $KMON and almost guarantee themselves a win!”, I hear you thinking to yourself. Well, you’re not wrong, but! We’ve put in place several safeguards to make sure everyone isn’t priced out by large $KMON whales.

Trainers Decide the Number of Eggs Up for Grabs

The Kryptomon team have, after much discussion, agreed upon a “budget” of eggs that will go into the lotteries, which includes the 2 Gen 0 eggs that were mentioned above. This doesn’t mean however, that all eggs will be won!

Trainers will decide how many eggs are up for grabs in the lottery each week by staking $KMON. At the end of every week, the code will determine the number of unique players who’ve bet tickets in that week’s lottery and only 10% will win. That means if there are 200 players in Week 1, there will only be 20 eggs released from the budget, one for each winner!

Let’s assume that the budget is 1000 eggs (we’re intentionally not releasing the actual number of eggs in our budget). This means that it’s very possible we get to the end of Week 8, and not all 1000 eggs in the budget have been won simply because there weren’t enough players. Alternatively, its also very possible that the lottery is wildly popular and we run out of eggs by Week 5! 🙀 If that’s the case, the egg lottery campaign ends immediately.

Tickets Can Be Used… or Saved

To add a little more strategy into the lottery, tickets that you get from staking your $KMON aren’t locked to a lottery in a particular week. That means you can start staking your $KMON from week 1, save up all your tickets and choose not participate in any lotteries for 4 weeks but spend all your tickets in the Week 5 lottery!

This allows smaller trainers to have a much higher chance of winning an egg… if they pick the right week to participate. 😉 It’ll be up to the trainers to do their research, be active on Discord and Telegram etc to figure out what the overall sentiment is.

It’s important to note however, that tickets are burnt once used regardless of whether you win or lose!

Winners Win Only Once

To prevent a large whale from just staking 500,000 $KMON, betting all the tickets and winning every egg every week, we’ve implemented a rule that every unique wallet address can only win once per lottery. So the whale could theoretically “almost” guarantee himself a win by betting 500,000 tickets every single week, but he’d only receive one egg.

The code will then choose the remaining winners from other wallet addresses while the whale’s 499,999 remaining tickets are ignored.

Chainlink Integration for Guaranteed Randomness

Finally. to ensure there is no bias in the lottery and that winners are truly selected randomly, we’ve integrated the Chainlink VRF feature into our lottery system. Nobody, not even a member of the Kryptomon team will be able to influence the lottery in any way and guarantee someone a win.

A Step by Step Guide… with Pictures!

The process of staking your $KMON and participating in the lottery is quite simple. Simply head on over to our website where we’ll soon be releasing a dedicated staking page, choose an amount of $KMON to stake and you’re done!

Step 1 — Select the amount of $KMON you’d like to stake and confirm it. Once this is done, your tickets will be allocated to you automatically over time.

Step 1

Step 2 — When you’re ready to participate in the lottery, use the slider on the same page to choose how many tickets you’d like to bet. Here in this example you’ll see that I’ve chosen to bet just over 9 million tickets in this week’s lottery.

Hit the “Play” button to confirm your choice.

Step 2

Step 3 — If done right, the section on the right will then show how many tickets you’ve bet in the current week’s lottery.

Step 3

Step 4 — Finally, if you were lucky enough to become the winner of a Kryptomon egg, you’ll see an additional window near the top of the screen with a button to claim your prize!

Step 4

Frequently Asked Questions

How many tickets will I get if I stake X number of $KMON?
The simple answer is… no one knows! This is because the number of tickets you receive is dependent on the percentage of your KMON against the total amount of KMON in the pool.

Eg: If there are 100 KMON in the staking pool and you stake 1 KMON, you’ll receive 1% of the tickets.

As we’re unable to predict variables like:

  • How much KMON will be staked at any point in time
  • How often will people add or remove their KMON

It’s impossible to guarantee an answer that you’ll receive X tickets for every Y KMON staked.

                                                                                                                            .  .  .

Are there any minimum or maximum KMON amounts that I’m limited to when participating in the staking pool?
There is not! Feel free to stake as much or as little KMON as you like. Obviously, the more KMON you stake, the more tickets you’ll receive, which increases your chances of winning. But it’s still definitely possible that you play only 1 ticket and still walk away a winner!

                                                                                                                            .  .  .

When will winners be announced every week?
Winners will be announced every Sunday at 12am UTC! All tickets that were bet in that week’s lottery will then be burnt (regardless of whether you win or lose)

                                                                                                                            .  .  .

Are there any lock periods when I stake my KMON? Can I unstake them at any time?
There are no lock periods! Tickets are awarded on a block by block basis (every 3 seconds) so feel free to unstake all or part of your KMON at any time.

                                                                                                                            .  .  .

How many eggs will be given out as rewards per week?
This was addressed in the article. The simple answer is 10% of the number of participants in the lottery! Remember, it’s the number of lottery players (the number of unique wallets that have bet a ticket in this week’s lottery) and not the number of stakers.

This means that if in Week 1, 200 unique wallets chosen to play their tickets, then 20 eggs will be given out.

                                                                                                                            .  .  .

How many times can I win?
You can win once per week. If you’ve won in Week 1, it’s definitely still possible for you to win in Week 2 or Week 3. However, it is impossible for you to win twice in Week 1.

                                                                                                                            .  .  .

Closing Statement

$KMON staking will begin on the 10th of September 2021, but it’s important to note that all of the information above is still subject to change. While we believe we’ve come up with the most ideal balance between egg supply/demand and giving trainers an incentive to stake $KMON, we don’t pretend we have all the answers.

As always, our co-creation promise to you means that we’re still open to feedback from all our trainers. Do you think there’s a better rule that could be implemented in the egg lottery? Is there a loophole that we’ve missed that you know how to solve? Let us know via the usual social media channels and we might incorporate it into the rules before the lottery begins!

See you in game, fellow trainer.
