Kryptomon — Marketplace Launch

Hello trainers, welcome back to the wonderful world of Kryptomon. With the game launch right around the corner (13th of December 2021), we’re sure you’re all eager for more details and sneak peeks into what exciting adventures await you. Fortunately for you, there’ll be an AMA session on the day itself for you to throw any questions you might have Umberto’s way!

In this article however, we’ll be diving into another feature that I’m sure all of you are just as excited about— Our very own Kryptomon Marketplace!

                                                                                                                            .  .  .

The Kryptomon Central Hub

A long long time ago (September 2021 seems so long ago now…), we released official word that our very own marketplace was in the works. With major kudos to our amazing CTO Chris, Version 1 of the marketplace is finally ready to be released to the general public!

Though the reasoning behind why we needed our own marketplace has not changed since then, we’ve had to adapt and re-prioritize the features we initially set out to build based on the feedback we received from the community. So! Which features made the cut for Version 1 and which are coming soon?

                                                                                                                            .  .  .

Marketplace Features

Buy and Sell with KMON and BNB

The marketplace will allow trades in both KMON and BNB. In the future, we might consider rolling out support for trading in more cryptocurrencies but the main marketplace currency will always be KMON.

In an effort to make the Kryptomon Marketplace the best place (a true central hub) for all things Kryptomon, the transaction fee for trades conducted on our marketplace will be set at 4% for all trades conducted in BNB. Given that many major NFT marketplaces today charge a flat 5% fee for all trades (even our partners tofuNFT and Mochi do this), why wouldn’t you choose to buy, trade and sell your Kryptomons on the Kryptomon marketplace?

If that wasn’t enough, to encourage the use of KMON (more use cases for KMON!), trades conducted in KMON will receive a discount on transaction fees and see only 3.65% being charged! Why pay more when you don’t have to? 😉

                                                                                                                            .  .  .

Search And Bid On Kryptomons 🔍

At the moment on our partner marketplaces, the only eggs you see are those that other trainers have made available for sale. But what if you’re looking for a very specific combination of physical and elemental genes and can’t find it on the market?

With the Kryptomon marketplace, we wanted to make it such that trainers could easily find any Kryptomon/Kryptomon egg, even if it wasn’t available for sale! Featuring 27 different filters and the ability to search for a Kryptomon directly with its ID, the new marketplace gives trainers the ability to do exactly that.

I… WANT… FILTERS!!!!

In addition, trainers will now be able to place a bid on the Kryptomon they have their eye on, regardless of if the owner had put it up for sale. It’ll still of course, be up to the owners to decide if they want to accept or reject your bid, but this at least means you no longer have to type in your buy message on the main Telegram channel and hope that the owner sees your message.

Note that being able to search for all Kryptomons using specific filters and see if they’re available for sale also gives the ability for interested breeders and traders to quickly determine where there might be an oversupply of a particular type of Kryptomon, or where there is low supply but high demand. 😉 This will act as a signal for breeders to determine what type of Kryptomons they should breed and sell.

                                                                                                                            .  .  .

Find only Kryptomons that are for sale 💰

If you’re in a hurry and didn’t want to go through the nerve wrecking ups and downs of placing a bid on a Kryptomon, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered too! Simply hit this nifty little switch on the top right hand corner of the screen and the marketplace will now only show you Kryptomons that have been put up for sale!

Convenient isn’t it?

                                                                                                                            .  .  .

Did someone say… loot boxes?

Loot boxes are now available for sale on the marketplace! Trainers looking to buy them however, should be aware of 2 key points:

1) Loot boxes will not be viewable or useable until the game launches
While your wallet has stored the information that you own loot boxes, the ability to see and unlock them for the goodies they contain will only come on the 13th of December 2021 when the game launches!

2) Loot boxes cannot be traded or sold
Trainers will always have the ability to purchase loot boxes via the Kryptomon marketplace, so there is no resell value in holding loot boxes. They are meant solely as a means of acquiring the necessary items to properly take care of your Kryptomons.

                                                                                                                            .  .  .

真的吗?!?! 🚀

That’s right! Chinese and Spanish Kryptomon trainers will soon be able to view the marketplace in your native languages as the team are hard at work on a Chinese and Spanish translation for the marketplace even now.

Though this functionality won’t be available at launch, it’s definitely in the cards and will be something that comes sooner rather than later.

Coming soon!

                                                                                                                            .  .  .

Transfer For Free 🎉

A large barrier to entry was the inability to transfer Kryptomons between wallets. Let’s assume that you’ve convinced a friend to give Kryptomon a go and you’d like to give him one of your Kryptomons to start him off.

Previously the only way of doing this was for you to sell him your Kryptomon on one of our partner marketplaces for a high price (so that no one else snaps it up immediately) and then return to your friend the funds used to “buy” your Kryptomon. Not only did you have to pay gas fees for 2 separate transactions, you also paid a fee to the marketplace for buying an egg.

To curb this, egg transfers between friends or people you trust will be free while using the Kryptomon market. You’ll still have to pay gas fees once (since those go to the BSC and isn’t something we can control) but it’ll be a much more streamlined process compared to what it was before.

Simply head on over to the My Assets tab to find all the Kryptomons you own. Hit the “Transfer” button on the Kryptomon you’d like to give to your friend and know that you’ve done your good deed for the day in bringing one more trainer to the Kryptomon family.

Did we also mention that we don’t charge to list your Kryptomons for sale and for cancelling those listings? You can do those for free! (besides gas fees of course)

                                                                                                                            .  .  .

BSC Issues

As most of you are no doubt aware, the BSC has been congested as of late. This has in turn caused Subgraph, the blockchain indexing tool of choice for all NFT marketplaces (including us) to suffer delays of up to 50 minutes.

What does this mean for users?

Trainers can still initiate and complete transactions (eg: buy, sell, bid or transfer Kryptomons). However, the delay in indexing blockchain data means that the marketplace won’t know this has happened until much later.

To reiterate, the Kryptomon that you’ve just attempted to buy has been bought successfully! It’s sitting safe in your wallet waiting for you, though it won’t appear on your My Assets tab until some time has passed.

Unfortunately, this isn’t something that we can control and is a problem suffered by many projects across the BSC. At time of writing, the indexing delay is up to 34 minutes and we’ve included a banner on the top of the marketplace to keep trainers updated.

34 minute indexing delay!

                                                                                                                            .  .  .

The Show Must Go On!

Despite the congestion issues with the BSC, we’ve decided to proceed with the launch of the Kryptomon marketplace as planned. We simply ask that trainers be aware of the indexing issues and to stay patient after initiating a transaction.

This marks an important step forward for all of us in the Kryptomon family. As detailed in this article, we’re now in control of our own fate. Not only can we focus on building out features that will best benefit our community, the funds received from the transaction fees will be put to use in order to further improve Kryptomon!

As usual, let us know your thoughts and feedback on the new marketplace on our social media channels. What is the ONE feature you think we should focus on next that would have a huge impact on the marketplace?

See you in game, fellow trainer. (Only 3 more days!)

PS: A huge shoutout to the small team of beta-testers that have been hard at work testing the different features over the past week!

Kryptomon — Version 1 Begins

Hello trainers, welcome back to the wonderful world of Kryptomon.

As I begin penning (typing really…) down this article, I can’t help but reminisce at how far we’ve come since our humble beginnings more than 8 months ago. In the first ever Kryptomon Medium post on the 11th of April 2021, a small team of Pokemon lovers had just sat down together to dream up what would eventually become Kryptomon.

With the launch of Version 1 today, this marks the most significant milestone the Kryptomon team and community have achieved since then. There have been ups and downs in this journey, celebrations of success and more failures than we can count, but by gods we pushed past all of it to make today a reality.

For trainers who are mostly excited about the new Caring mechanism that’s been released with V1, feel free to skip past this first section and head down to “Version 1 — Caring for your Kryptomon”. For the OG trainers though, the ones who’ve been with us since the very beginning, this first section is a trip down memory lane for you.

                                                                                                                            .  .  .

It all began with a simple egg

All the memories

Remember the first eggs? We were a much smaller team back then, with nothing but our passion for the Kryptomon dream keeping us going. We had no assets, no lore and no advisors to help guide us through the wild west that is the crypto space. Never mind the support of a AAA game studio, back then we didn’t even have a Telegram group!

Fast forward 8 months and it’s a wondrous feeling to see how the Kryptomon team and family have grown. 🔥 We now produce different assets and images that you see on our social media channels on a daily basis, have an entire team of people working behind the scenes to help Professor Koa uncover the mysteries of where Kryptomons came from… Heck, the team has grown so large that we now have to do separate team standups to make sure everyone’s kept in the loop!

Our board of advisors has also grown! Having seen Kryptomon’s potential to be a game changer in the crypto gaming space, we now boast of several high profile advisors who have a wealth of experience across various fields that we can draw from. Among them are the ex CTO of Sony Playstation and the ex Director of Pokerstars!

And that’s barely scratching the many achievements we’ve made in just 8 months! Our very own Kryptomon marketplace, the capability to directly buy KMON with fiat via the Simplex integration, a content partnership with IGN… the list goes on.

From the first sketches of Kryptomon to thousands of procedurally generated pets ready to battle by your side!

The biggest change however, is the Kryptomon community, the Kryptomon family. We’re now 93,000 strong on Telegram, 110k on Twitter and so much more on the various other social media channels. Many of you have done so much for Kryptomon, from offering feedback to taking the time to beta test new features before we release them to the public. Listing all the contributions would require an entire article on its own so I won’t try to do that here, but thank you. It isn’t a stretch to say that without all of you, the Kryptomon team wouldn’t be where we are today. 💓

                                                                                                                            .  .  .

Version 1 — Caring for your Kryptomon

Are you ready to take your second step in becoming the greatest Kryptomon trainer of all time? In October you hatched and met your Kryptomon partners for the first time and the time has finally come to start… taking care of them! They’re just babies after all!

With great power comes great responsibility. Though your Kryptomon partners will some day grow into elemental powerhouses capable of calling down lightning to level mountains, right now they need us to bring out all of that hidden potential within them. Being a trainer is more than just calling out attacks in the heat of battle after all!

                                                                                                                            .  .  .

The Care Mechanism

Every Kryptomon is unique and there are plenty of things to discover about them, just like how you would a real pet! They have likes and dislikes, varying levels of resistance to disease and will get hungry over time if you don’t feed them! It’ll be up to you to make sure they’re well taken care of and kept in the pink of health. Be warned, failure to do so will see them fall into a deep, deep sleep — frozen for the rest of time in the Kryptomon’s version of death.

We’ve previously covered the individual care mechanics in great detail in a separate article so we won’t repeat that here. For more information on how you can take care of your Kryptomons and the benefits of doing so, check out our Whitepaper 2.0 which outlines the various features that have been implemented!

                                                                                                                            .  .  .

Game Launch FAQ

The game has been released, why can’t I play?

Both as a reward to our stalwart community who have supported us through thick and thin, and also as a safety measure from a technical perspective, we’ve decided to only allow trainers who hold at least 1 Kryptomon NFT by 11.59pm UTC on the 12th of December 2021 to access the game.

If you weren’t one of them, don’t worry! Each trainer allowed access to the game will also receive an additional invite pass which will allow them to invite one friend of their choice to the game. So… start some conversations on the Telegram group! Make some friends! Who knows? That person you’re chatting to might offer you both an invite to the game and also become a lifelong friend you might otherwise never have met!

                                                                                                                            .  .  .

Closing Thoughts

In a mere 8 months, the Kryptomon family has grown from a team of starry eyed gaming enthusiasts to a community that now numbers in the hundred thousands. From struggling to create our own graphics, we’ve now just launched a fully functioning Version 1 of the game! And we’re just getting started!

With Version 1.1 of the game, our very own Kryptomon debit card, a Kryptomon comic, the ability to buy Kryptomon NFTs directly via your credit card and plenty more in the works, make sure you keep watching this space while you feed and train your Kryptomon partners.

The world tournaments and battles to save the world against the evil forces of darkness will come in time, but for now your cute little partners need a little love, some food and lots of training to bring out all of the hidden potential inside them. As an added bonus for being one of the first few players to ever begin training your Kryptomon, you’ll have that competitive advantage over newer players when battles do begin!

See you in game trainers.

Kryptomon — Koa’s Log #7

Money Problems

“FOUR… THREE…TWO…ONE!”, the crowd chanted in sync as all eyes turned towards the projection of a clock high above the night sky.

“HAPPY NEW YEAR!”

Whoops of excitement and the clink of glasses filled the opulent ballroom, the crowd toasting the new year with bottles of champagne. But a normal crowd this was not, a difference I felt all too keenly as soon as Eva and I arrived at the Keystone Bank’s new year celebration.

Those glasses of champagne being handed out? The waiters were sure to remind everyone how all 50 bottles were sponsored by one of the guests, a generous donation at $10,000 a bottle. A Rolex or three, the collection of sports cars with names I can’t pronounce lining the driveway and it was clear that this was a party for members of society who regularly came into contact with the upper echelons of the Keystone Bank.

Eva looked amazing, dressed up in a red dress that really brought out the color of her eyes. No stranger to the trappings of high society, Eva blended in like a fish in water, fielding questions and somehow keeping me from saying anything stupid the whole night.

“Just smile and think about the grant we need. I don’t like this any more than you do but you need to find Embie and the lab could desperately use an upgrade, so suck it up!” I remember her mouthing to me without ever losing that megawatt smile that seemed permanently affixed to her face.

“Hey you’re the one that wanted to play James Bond and come tonight!” I fired back.

“It’s not like we had any better leads. The bank started pulling our funding and this was our only chance at finding out why. So smile, start mingling and maybe someone in this crowd will be able to explain why we’ve lost more than 40% of the grant.”

I sighed. She was right of course, but there was just something about the pretentiousness of it all, the dagger hiding behind every smile that made me wish I was back at the lab and working on the pink serum. But Embie’s been missing for over two months now and if this party is what it took to get me closer to solving the pink serum and finding Embie, then that’s what I’ll do.

                                          .  .  .

Three…excruciating… hours later, we had our answer.

                                          .  .  .

A Plan of Attack

“It’s just not possible!” Eva exclaimed hotly, stuffing three French fries into her mouth at the same time, all semblance of the social butterfly that brushed shoulders with society’s finest nary an hour ago completely gone. “There were no reported hatchings of Kryptomon before us, so how could they have progressed so far, so quickly?”

“It’s not impossible,” I replied, “and keep your voice down!”. The McDonalds was packed with children running amok and a few tired looking parents taking a break at nearby tables. Not that I expected any of them to be secret spies attempting to listen in on our conversation, but in the world of Kryptomon research with stakes as high as ours, one can never be too sure.

“It’s possible that they had a better team and were better equipped. We lost most of the lab when the fire happened and research has slowed because of it.” I continued.

“But man-made serum?” Eva interjected. “We don’t even understand what the pink serum is, never mind being able to reproduce it on a consistent basis!”

I paused, my retort about Diabaté’s team simply being better funded dying in my throat. Unless the Kryptomons had hatched for Diabaté before they did for us, it was… unlikely that anyone could have discovered the pink moon serum and devised a method of creating it so quickly.

“There’s only one way to find out” Eva said with finality. Crossing her arms and leaning back in her seat, “we’ve got to go see for ourselves how this Diabaté’s managed to do it.”

I sighed, knowing it would have come to this eventually. As incredulous as it sounded, corporate espionage was part of the game we played when we stepped into the role of Kryptomon researchers.

“To Africa then?” I asked, leaning back in my own seat while meeting her already grinning eyes.

“To Africa we go”.

Play & Earn in the season of love

Hello trainers, welcome back to the wonderful world of Kryptomon.

With the caring mechanism released in Version 1.1 for just over a month now, hopefully you’ve been taking advantage of your first mover advantage by keeping your Kryptomon partners happy and constantly training! The team have been hard at work and on the 15th of February 2022, Version 1.2 will be released to the public, officially introducing the Breeding and Quest mechanisms for the very first time.

Several exciting changes have been made in Version 1.2 and you can watch *Spoiler Lord* Umberto and *Handsome* Carter explain these in their recent Founders Talk here. However, if you’re not a fan of video and would prefer to just read through what Version 1.2 will bring, you’re in the right place.

So kick back, make sure your Kryptomons are fed and let’s jump right into it!

Breeding — The Season of Love

Love is in the air

Was it a coincidence that breeding will be released just one day after Valentine’s Day?

Now that your baby Kryptomons are on the verge of evolving into a Junior Kryptomon (young adult), trainers who intend to specialize in breeding will finally be able to breed and sell Kryptomon eggs. Trainers can do this by themselves (if they own 2 or more Kryptomons), with friends and even with other trainers looking to make a little profit!

Here are some things to keep in mind when thinking about breeding:

Find a partner via the Marketplace.

A new tab has been created in the Kryptomon Marketplace where trainers can list their Kryptomon for breeding, along with a Breeding Fee. This gives trainers the chance to:

  • Make a Profit — Unlocks earning potential for trainers who aren’t interested in breeding but own strong Kryptomon. Simply list them on the marketplace and earn the Breeding Fee whenever your Kryptomon is selected to be someone’s breeding partner.
  • Choose an Optimal Partner — Unlike other games out there, you don’t need to own both Kryptomons in order to breed them. This system gives you access to a much larger and more varied gene pool that will increase your chances of breeding the ultimate baby Kryptomon.

Excel… Be Gone!

The resulting offspring’s genes will be dependent on its parents genes, mutation probabilities and a bunch other fancy math that goes on in the background when the “Breed” button is hit. Fortunately for you, we don’t want trainers spending time maintaining and filling out complex Excel spreadsheets manually to determine possible outcomes.

Less time doing math = More time playing the game

Instead, a special UI has been built to do all of the calculations automatically for you. When searching for partners in the Marketplace, this UI will instantly determine the range of possible outcomes so that you can make the most informed decision before committing to a breed.

Mutation

In addition to being dependent on the genes of the parents, breeders will have to factor in the effect of mutation occurring when attempting to predict the offspring’s genetic parameters. With the exception of Gen 0 Kryptomon, all other Kryptomons will see a deviation in the resulting egg’s stats due to mutation, with higher gen Kryptomons showing the largest possible deviations.

It’s important to note however, that mutation isn’t always negative but can be a good thing. Mutation is the deviation of the baby’s genes away from it’s parents, so two Generation 10 Kryptomons (high mutation effect) that both have low Attack parameters could theoretically give birth to a Kryptomon with high Attack!

We expect that this will create a market for people looking to breed with lower Generation Kryptomons while still ensuring that high Generation Kryptomons have value.

Breeding two high Generation Kryptomons is akin to playing the gene lottery and you might walk away with an absolute beast of a Kryptomon… or the exact opposite. However, all trainers with strong Kryptomons will still strive to breed their Kryptomon with lower Generation ones in order to increase the chances of passing on good genes.

In addition, while Generation 0 Kryptomon will see a near 0% chance of negative mutation, they do have a chance of seeing a small positive mutation, once again adding to the value of Generation 0 Kryptomon.

Mutation Example:

Kryptomon A has 100 Attack while Kryptomon B has 1 Attack. Assuming that breeding takes a simple average of the two genes, you would expect that the baby Kryptomon to have an Attack of 50.

However, because both Kryptomon A and B are Generation 10 Kryptomons, this means that there is a 50% mutation range for the baby’s stats, so the resulting baby’s Attack parameter could be anywhere between 25 and 75.

The above is simply an example with made up numbers and percentages to help visualize the mutation process. This in no way represents the math, logic and mutation range percentages actually being used behind the scenes.

Cost and Limitations of Breeding

There are 2 parts to the fee associated when Kryptomons breed:

  • Breeding Cost of $75 — This is a flat fee paid in KMON and will be charged to the trainer who initiates the breed.
  • Breed Fatigue Fee — A 10% fee is added for each time a Kryptomon has produced offspring in the past year. This fee (also in KMON) is calculated for each of the 2 Kryptomons involved in the breed and will be charged to the trainer initiating the breed.
Note that breed counts resets back to to 0 when your Kryptomon enters the next phase of growth (eg: Young -> Young Adult)

In addition, Kryptomons can’t just continuously breed and produce offspring all year long. While an egg is produced instantly after breeding and given to the initiator of the breed, there will be a cooldown period for the two Kryptomons based on their Speed parameter.

Kryptomons are also limited in the number of times they can breed per year and is dependent on its age and its Stamina parameter. The exact numbers are shown in the table below:

Breeding Quota

Breeding Example

Carter lists his Kryptomon (Gaia) up on the marketplace for breeding with a Breeding Fee of $500 and Umberto thinks that Gaia would make a great breeding partner for his Kryptomon (Zero). Gaia has already bred 5 times this year but this will be the first time Zero is breeding.

Cost to Umberto:

  • Breeding Cost = $75 since Umberto initiated the breed
  • Breed Fatigue Fee = $0 because this is the first time Zero is breeding + $37.5 ($75 * 0.5) since this will be the 6th time Gaia is breeding this year
  • Breeding Fee = $500 paid to Carter
  • Total = $612.5

Cost to Carter:

  • Breeding Cost = $0 since Carter did not initiate the breed
  • Breed Fatigue Fee = $0 since Carter did not initiate the breed
  • Breeding Fee = Earned $500 from Umberto
  • Total = Profit of $500

Play & Earn Part 1 — Quests

Gasp! Who’s this?

It’s been a long time coming, but Professor Koa and Eva have been hard at work unravelling the secrets behind Kryptomon and now YOU can help them. Once Version 1.2 is released, trainers will start receiving quests from the various characters, some of which you’ll recognize and some… you won’t.

Quest Chains

Every trainer will receive a weekly quest chain at the start of the week (Monday 00:00:00 UTC) and will have exactly 7 days to complete it before the next quest chain is issued. Any uncompleted quests by the end of the week will expire and no reward will be given for them, regardless of how close you were to finishing it.

Eg: Assuming your quest was to feed your Kryptomon its favorite food 3 times and you’ve only fed it twice by Sunday 23:59:59, you get no reward for that quest.

Quest chains are made up of 10 individual quests, with each successive quest becoming progressively more difficult as you work your way up the chain. For now, trainers will not be able to see all 10 quests in the chain at the start of the week, though this is something that we’re working to change in future releases.

In the future, while trainers might be able to see all quests at the start of the week, you cannot complete quests in parallel.

Eg: Assuming Quest 1 is to feed your Kryptomon its favorite food 3 times while Quest 2 is to play with your Kryptomon 3 times.

If you play with your Kryptomon but haven’t yet completed Quest 1, you do not get any progress towards completing Quest 2.

Quest Rewards

“I understand the Play part, but how do I Earn with quests?”

I’m glad you asked! Completing quests will reward you with different prizes depending on the quest you’ve completed. Specifically:

  • Quests 1–4 will reward trainers with in game items — Food items, Medicine etc etc
  • Quest 5 will reward you with KMON tokens
  • Quests 6–9 will see you earning premium in game items
  • Quest 10 will reward KMON tokens.

Note that I didn’t specify how many KMON tokens you’ll earn for completing quests 5 and 10 and that’s because… we don’t know either! 👀

In the future, it is our goal to have a dynamic, fully automated solution that will determine the weekly KMON payouts for quests, but for now we just don’t have that kind of data to be able to say anything for sure. That’s why for now we’ll be manually determining a prize pool every week and increase/decrease it over time as necessary.

Trainers who complete at least Quest 5 will be eligible to earn from this weekly pool of KMON and those who manage to complete both Quest 5 AND Quest 10 will naturally receive more KMON.

Frequently Asked Questions

I own more than 1 Kryptomon. Does that mean I’ll receive more than 1 quest chain every week?

  • You receive only 1 quest chain per week regardless of the number of Kryptomon you own. However, you can use any number of Kryptomons when completing the quest chain.
  • Eg: You’ve completed Quest 1 with Kryptomon A. You then realize that Quest 2 is far easier to complete with Kryptomon B and you can do so. However, you cannot use multiple Kryptomons for the same Quest 1.

In the example above, Gaia is breeding for the 6th time this year so why isn’t Carter paying the Breed Fatigue Fee?

  • All fees are completely paid for by the person initiating the breed. Since Umberto was the one who chose to pick Gaia as a breeding partner, Umberto will pay all associated fees.
